Cortez is a character in the Super Mario series. He first appeared in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. He is the holder of the Sapphire Star, and has a Spanish accent. He lives in a pirate ship in Pirate's Grotto on Keelhaul Key. He tries to scare Mario when he tries to take his treasure, and eventually gives up and fights him. After he is defeated, he will disappear, and eventually say that he is immortal in his unlife state.
